Pork fat as one of the most nutritious foods on the planet

In research published in the journal PLOS One, scientists analysed 1000 raw foods in order to determine their nutritional content. The resulting Top 100 were then collated by the BBC and ranked in reverse order.

Ranking at number eight in the Top 100, with a nutritional score of 73 was pork fat. The only food derived from red meat to make it on the top 100, pork fat is touted as being high in B vitamins and minerals, while being unsaturated and healthier than lamb or beef fat.

While inclusions like sweet potato, ginger, Brussels sprouts and broccoli are far from groundbreaking, pork fat beat them all, coming in at number eight on the list, with a higher nutritional score.
