Best nationally available Australian ham announced

To celebrate Australian product and producers, thirty influential voices and members of the pork industry came together on 20 November 2019 in Sydney’s iconic Strand Arcade for a launch event.

“When it comes to ham, if it’s on the bone, then it’s one of our own. However, if you’re buying a boneless ham, look for an almost full bar chart on the packaging to be sure your ham is made from 100% Australian pork.” Australian Pork Limited Marketing Communications Manager, Mitch Edwards said.

The event was also a chance to showcase excellence, with D’Orsogna’s Australian Jarrah Honey Ham taking out the 2019/20 Australian PorkMark Ham Awards’ nationally available category, with the 1.2kg mini ham portion available in Woolworths meat cabinet and bulk sliced ham available in Woolworths in the deli year-round.

The Australian PorkMark Ham Awards was introduced in 2009 to find the best hams made using 100% Australian pork. Judging of the Australian PorkMark Ham Awards took place earlier in 2019, the competition attracted more than 140 entries from across the country being assessed on appearance, aroma, form and of course, the all-important taste test.

“We know people are paying more attention to where their food comes from and how it’s raised. When you’re cooking for the people you love most, sustainable, local and ethical ingredients play a role, but taste and value for money reign king,” Mr Edwards said.

The most innovative products of the year voted by more than 10,000 Australian shoppers have been crowned in the annual Product of the Year Awards in November 2019.

Product of the Year is the world’s largest consumer-voted awards program recognising product innovation across a variety of categories.

“We’ve seen a resurgence of emerging brands winning in their respective categories as leaders in their space, and we couldn’t be happier to welcome them into the program,” Product of the Year Director, Sarah Connelly said.

D’Orsogna’s Flame Roasted Carolina Style Sweet Dijon Mustard Leg Ham was selected as the top product in the Smallgoods Deli category, with the product available nationally in Woolworths stores in the deli and chiller aisle. The high-quality leg ham has been made with a perfect balance of American barbeque pitmasters inspired Sweet Dijon Mustard flavour, further enriching the taste trip by double smoking with oak wood and real flame roasting.

The Nielsen research that determines the winners involves assessing the responses of more than 10,000 consumers on relevance, uniqueness, excitement, likeability, distinctiveness and innovation.

“It’s pleasing to see that consumers are backing these independent brands, with our research finding that ‘more than half of the consumers surveyed would purchase new products, even if they were unaware of the brand name.’” Ms Connelly said.

Quality a winning formula

Quality a winning formula

D’Orsogna’s Premium Australian Jarrah Honey Ham off the Bone has been voted by Australian consumers as Product of the Year 2019 in the Small Goods Category.

Product of the Year is the world’s largest consumer-voted award for product innovation. Established over 30 years ago in France, POY currently operates in over 40 countries with the same purpose: Guide consumers to the best products in their market and reward manufacturers for quality and innovation.

In Australia, the Product of the Year seal is backed by the votes of 14,000+ consumers, serving as a shortcut for shoppers and saving them time and money. For manufacturers of the winning products, the award is a powerful marketing message proven to increase product trial, awareness, distribution and sales.

Product of the Year accepts entries every year from products that demonstrate innovation and were launched within the previous year. Entered products are then placed into specific categories such as food, beverages, personal care, household care, etc. with a product then being chosen as a winner in its category through a nationally representative online study conducted by Nielsen research.

D'Orsogna support the Australian Commonwealth games members 2018

The Western Australian Division of the Australian Olympic & Commonwealth Games Committee hosted a farewell fundraising event for our local athletes heading off to compete as part of the Australian team in the 2018 Commonwealth Games held on the Gold Coast in April.

Our home grown talent represented a variety of sports including swimming, athletics, cycling, hockey, basketball, boxing, diving, netball and shooting.

The opportunity for our athletes to compete at a world class event on home soil was a unique and unforgettable experience and Australia had its most successful Commonwealth Games ever with a team of over 700 athletes winning 198 medals across 17 sports.

The D’Orsogna contribution played an important role in assisting the Western Australian Olympic Council to reach their fundraising target of $100,000.

Well done to our Australian team!

… and bravo to the event organisers and our fellow supporters who came together during the farewell event to support our athletes in achieving their goals!

We are proud of your successes and are pleased we were able to be a part of it.

All the best for preparation towards the 2020 Olympics in Japan!
